What race are you running today? What are your career goals? What are your long term or short-term goals?

As you run your race today, think about what motivates you or what drives you?

Just a few months ago in the Summer, I went to a track and decided I was going to run a few miles. When I arrived, I decided that I was going to run 6 miles. Each mile was dedicated to someone that I love: God, myself, my wife, my 2 sons, and my daughter. The first 3 miles were smooth. But the last 3 miles were very tough. When it got tough, God began to remind me of different scriptures to help me get through my toughest miles. On mile #4, 1 Corinthians 9:24 reminded me to run my race so I can receive the prize! Even though there wasn’t a tangible prize at the end of my 6-mile run, I still wanted to finish my race! I wanted to finish because I was running for God & my family. They were my motivation to keep me going and nothing was going to stop me or hold me back! On mile #5, 2 Timothy 1:7 reminded me that I must have a sound mind. My body was aching, and my mind was telling me to quit and give up. So, I had to block out all distractions and remind myself that God didn’t give me the Spirit of fear, but of Love, Power, and a Sound Mind! On mile #6, I was reminded of the story of Peter walking on water in Matthew chapter 14. The pain on my body got worse, I couldn’t feel my feet, and I was too close to give up. Peter saw Jesus on water walking calmly during the storm and raging waves. Peter saw the storm and felt the boisterous waves and began to sink because he was scared. So, I told myself to keep running and to run as if Jesus is at the finish line with His hands stretched out waiting to receive me as I finish my race.

Sometimes we just need some motivation to help us get through our turbulence in our race. Everybody's race is different, but also unique. It’s unique because it makes us stronger and wiser when we finish! 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us to “walk by faith and not by sight”. On your journey, we must continue to believe that “we can” and “we will” and put aside all distractions that will make us fall apart or drift away from our main goals. So, as you continue with your day, think about what race you are running and think about what or who motivates you to keep pressing on when times get hard.

Prayer: Father God, I pray that you will bless the reader today. I pray that you will pour out your Spirit and Power over this gentleman or lady that is trying to figure out how to finish their race. Father, please provide them with any resources and tools so they can master their craft to be the best that they can be. Father, you told us to run our race so that we may obtain the prize. Please give them the power and the strength to continue to run even when it gets hard. As we run our race, please give us the power to press toward the mark for the prize of the High Calling Jesus Christ as He gets the glory. We give you all the praise and glory over our situations. In Jesus name, Amen.
